Hi ,
This is my first thread, If you think this is not the right forum to start a thread on Mainframe. Please move it to the right place.
Is it possible to submit a Mainframe JCL thru Excel? I know we can send some text to mainframe using SHELL commands but i am not sure whether we can submit a JCL.
Can anyone please confirm is it possible to submit a JCL? Or is there any other way thru excel only?
Thanks & Regards,
What If ???

What emulator are you using to interface with your mainframe? Most of the terminal emulators I've used have a macro language that you can initiate from excel and send keystrokes and things across using (x,y) coordinates. I have Hummingbird OpenText explorer, I can just attach the session to an excel macro and send it things like doCmd("PF8") and excel makes it page forward. We mostly use this to screen scrape data that we don't have in relational databases or to automate repetitive tasks with our mainframe. However if you are using a telnet or PUTTY or something this won't work, I don't believe. There isn't any API refrence to putty for excel, that I know of.
I know nothing of JCL, but if you are using an emulator you can send data from excel that way. I do it every day.
