Protect them from what? Viewing, editing?

editing. i would even settle for a option to password protect the navigation pane.
To hide the navigation pane:
File-->Options-->Current Data Base-->Uncheck the box Display Navigation Pane
I also uncheck Allow full menus and Allow Default Shortcut Menus.
This keeps users from wandering behind the scenes.
For you to unlock and get behind the scenes, you will need to highlight the file in windows explorer and hold down the shift key and the enter key. This will open the file unhidden.
