    Working out %

    Hello folks

I am creating a database for use at work which can look at production figures and scrap figures in lots of different ways .The tables are populated daily. I currently have queries which look at machine scrap rates by date and scrap by machine ,production figures ect ect.
At the moment it can return production figures and scrap % by day and I have a query that can get the average % of scrap by machine .
Is there a way of making a query that will work out the % of scrap from the total parts made by machine instead of the average scrap %.
I hope that make sense .
Loving the site and learning a lot from it

Build a query Q1, that sums the total parts.
then build Q2 using Q1, that performs the %.

    Re: Working out %

Hi thanks for the reply .I am obviously doing something wrong or don't know what I m doing ... which is more likely..............I have queried the query but as far as i have managed is to do an average of the scrap percentage.
What I have is a table with production qty and scrap qty and the scrap qty is broken into about 12 reasons for it being a scrap product.
With my limited knowledge I canonly get the individual reasons as average scrap % as there is no % to select in the design view .Do I have to use code .
Sorry if I appear to be clueless but I am actually enjoying learning as much myself then with the help of the nice guys on this site making progress every day

    Re: Working out %

Hi I have managed to work out how to do this and it works ok. It was pretty simple in the end . I am not sure if there is a better way but I have queried the query then in design view in the blank columns added my calculations to work out the percentages I want to calculate and it works fine. Think I was maybe over thinking it .
    But thanks for the pointer
