    Connect to Database

    Greetings,

I have been attempting to connect to an external database for a couple days with no success through excel. I was success in connecting via Oracle Client. I would like to connect through excel to be able to run quick reports through a dashboard. I have attempted the data connection wizard using the other/advanced and the Oracle Provider for OLE DB with no success. I think I am entering the incorrect data source, but have been unable to find a solution on the web.

    Connection Screen:
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(FAILOVER=ON)(LOAD_BALANCE=OFF)(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST= XXXXXXX)(PORT=YYYY))(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST= XXXXXX)PORT=YYYY)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME= MMMMM)))

How can I use the connection string above into a database connection through excel?

    Thanks,

    Try this out -

If you want to try using ADO, you can try some of these -

    Try using Power Query.

It's much easier to to use than the standard data connections. I use it to hit the database with a select statement which I then load into excel and dashboard off of that.

I believe Power Query is not available to all 2013 Versions..

Only Professional Plus, Office 365 ProPlus or Excel 2013 Standalone
