Excel 2007 automatically selecting cells
I'm new to Excel 2007... whilst I'm managing to find most things I'm used to using in 2003, I have an issue in one workbook that I can't figure out.
When I click in some single cells (not all), that cell and several below it automatically highlight as a range... left-clicking initially highlights the cell, but as you release the mouse button, the others below it also highlight. I'm guessing this is a setting of some sort that I've unknowingly invoked, but I can't find any reference to it. Some insight/assistance would be greatly appreciated. Bryan |

Possibly a mouse error, try clicking on the mouse scroll button a couple of times....... |

If you navigate into the cells with the keyboard, there isn't a problem... It's somehow associated with the release of the left mouse click and certain cells... |

OK, I don't have an answer yet, but here's a further finding.
If the left-click is done fast (a tap rather than a deliberate click), just the single cell is selected, as would be expected... when the click is longer than ~½ second in duration, it selects multiple cells. Any more ideas? |

The most common solution found and the solution that worked for me when I had a similar problem was to click on the scroll button and then play around with it after that, if this did not work for you and you are still looking for an answer after a week, then there is probably a more serious problem, have you tried a different mouse?? |

Since this issue only exists on one sheet of one workbook, it is very unlikely to be an problem with the mouse... to reinforce this thought, I swapped back to an old mouse, with no change. I have to say, having to work with/around this multiple cell selection issue is becoming very taxing. |

Hi All,
Can't believe this problem hasnt been rectified yet. After searching on google for a fix found that loads of people are having the same problem.. For me, it only does this in page layout view and has all the effects of the above. Its not my mouse, that i am certain of, if I quick tap the left button a single cell is selected, but a standard tap selects around 4 cells. If I save my file out as a xls instead of a xlsx it still happens. But all in page layout view only. If anyone has any ideas how to fix this, I would be appreciative. Many Thanks |

Jonny, thanks for your observations...
I will see if dropping out of PageLayout resolves my issue for now. Thanks again.

Weird workarounds
I have the same issue. I found that on a certain spreadsheet I had the same problem with these exact conditions.
1. Page Layout View 2. Zoomed to 70% 3. Scrolled to the top of the document If I click anywhere, the cell I click on and the 3 to 4 cells below it are selected as well. However, Normal view works fine. Zooming to any other size works fine. Also, if I scroll down a single click or anywhere else in the document it's fine. I don't know what that means, but that's what I've seen. |
