Excel 2007 Pivot Table using SQL Query

In Excel 2007 I want to create a pivot table that uses my SQL query as the datasource. Whenever I choose "Use an external data source" I get a list of tables. In prior versions of Excel I could cancel that and get to a query window. How do I do that in Excel 2007?

G'day rbear,

Since no has answered I'm going to suggest.

I haven't any experience with external data source, but I have look at the steps you have taken.

Maybe you have setup a connection to the spreadsheet first??

Have you try this option

Go to the 'Data' tab and select 'From Other Source' then

select the right option for you to import the info then a wizard will pop up to help you the rest of the way.

Hope this helps

Thanks for responding ratcat! Your suggestion helped me find the answer. I had been using the Data -> From Other Sources -> SQL Server path. This time I used the Data -> From Other Sources -> From MS Query path and found familiar ground that let me do what I was wanting. Thanks again!
