    Compatability Mode in Excel 2007

I have created a spreadsheet in Excel 2007 but now I can only open it in compatability mode and I can't see all the other sheets - please help as this took me ages to create and now I think i've lost it.

Try to Save As with a different file name and set it to XLSX file type.

When you go to Options, then Save, is the default file format .xlsx or .xls? If the latter, Excel automatically opens in Compatibility Mode, so it should be changed back to .xlsx. If this doesn't help, we'll keep hunting.

Am I looking under the office button?

I can't seem to see where I find out what format it is saved as.

Yes, the Office button-->Excel Options-->Save, then the top entry is "Save files in this format". You're not really checking the format of the file. Teylyn's advice should have made sure it's .xlsx. You're checking for the default save mode, which determines how Excel operates, either with 2007 rules or 2003 rules (compatibility mode).

OK, but what's the extension after that? Is it .xls or .xlsx or something else?

OK, then it should be in 2007. Have you closed and restarted Excel since this thread began? I found another instance online where that helped after the file was saved as an xlsx.

Re: Compatability Mode in Excel 2007

Found your problem...somehow you have it saved as a word doc in 2007. That's interesting. Don't really know how you did that. Try copying the file and pasting it somewhere convenient, then change the extensions on one of them to xlsx from docx.

*Edit: Never mind. Posted before I looked at what the doc contained. Is there a way to post the workbook itself and not a screen shot. Screen shots don't help us very often.

Re: Compatability Mode in Excel 2007

Now i'm really confused - when I open it and try to save as 2007 I don't get that option at all. I have a whole list of other formats but not 2007 or xlsx.

I can post the workbook - how should i do it - html using excel genie?

Re: Compatability Mode in Excel 2007

If you saved it already as xlsx, that shouldn't matter because it will be in that format. If it just says Excel Workbook, that should mean 2007. Excel 97-2003 Workbook would be the type for those editions. If it's still saying you're in compatibility mode after you've made sure it's an xlsx and restarted Excel, then I'm sorry, but I'm out of ideas. I'm sure one of the other gurus on here can help you, though.

Thanks for your help. How can I get someone else to have a look - can you recommend someone?

Probably best to just sit tight and wait. The Mods here are usually really good about checking in on pretty much every thread.
