Post How to create a formula to Hyperlink to a PDF

    Hello,
I have a table containing 40K files. I need to be able to hyperlink to each individual file from within excel. Is there a formula that I can use? Doing this by hand is not an option.

    Use the hyperlink function. (=hyperlink).

do do this effectively you will need to ensure your PDF's have a logical file name

Re: How to create a formula to Hyperlink to a PDF

I've just done it and got it working...

    My example is as follows:

    =HYPERLINK("C:\Documents and Settings\pg01219\Desktop\letters\"&C1&" - regarding some subject.pdf",C1)

c1 is a cell reference to an individuals name that i've also used in the file name.

So in the above example my file name would be "Someones Name - Regarding some subject.pdf" which is located on my desktop in a folder called letters.

Question, using this formula, will I have to manually enter in each file into the formula?

Just to ensure not to confuse anyone. I have 40,000 PDFs I am trying to link to and would like to make this as easy as possible. I am not sure, maybe I am wrong, which is quite possible, that I can use the =hyperlink function.

How are the files named & where are they stored on your machine??

Is there a link between the name of the file and the data you have got in excel?

If not you're going to have a night mare because there is no unique number/string linking the excel hyperlink to the file.

The files are in a folder on my c drive. Al in one location. There is a link between the file and the name in excel. The name of the cell in excel is also the name of the file.

I've put together an example. Wouldn't be able to give you the specific formula though unless I had the document and where all your files are located
