    changing resolution of time-axis-data

    Hi and thanks in advance

    I have some data from a science-machine that changes in its space-resolution (the x axis)

    so about like this
    mm kg
    1 4
    2 5
    3 6
    5 7
    6 12
    8 8
    10 10
    15 13
    20 14
    25 15

    now I want to plot that in a chart but have a normal x-axis with the same resolution everywhere

    I dont know anything about excel or macros or whatever so If I need that please give me a hint where to learn what I need to know for this

    Furthermore I have multiple of the these tables and I want to plot them together but if I plot 4 of the together I get 4 ones on my x-axis and 3 twos then 4 threes again and just one five as the data hits different lenghts on different measurements and some lenghts are hit by multiple runs.

    please ask if my english made anything ununderstandable

    what I would like to have (with two data series):
    a plot with a x-axis with constant rise or a data series that would produce that like:
    1 4 3
    2 5 4
    3 6 6
    4 x 7
    5 7 x
    6 12 10
    7 x 11
    8 8 x
    9 x x
    10 10 9
    11 x x
    12 x x
    13 x 12
    14 x x
    15 13 x

    Re: changing resolution of time-axis-data

    Hello and welcome to the forum.

    You can plot the data as a XY Scatter chart, with the mm data on the X axis. This will retain the proportional distances between the data points.

    See attached.

    XY Charts can be formatted to have lines, too -- just select a XY Scatter chart type with lines.

    cheers,

    Re: changing resolution of time-axis-data

    heres some actual data

    no kind of plot displays it correctly so far

    EDIT I think I can describe my problem more aptly now:

    If you open the attached excel file youll find two data sets. I want to combine these sets in a way, that I get no doubled entries because that
    streches my x-axis. Assuming the scatter plot actually displays the line numbers on the x-axis and not an actual value range.
    How can I get rid of the doubled entries without losing the information in the 3rd 4th and so on column

    when I delete duplicates it either says the were none or only deletes them in the first column, but doesnt change the later columns accordingly

    Re: changing resolution of time-axis-data

    Hallo Leo,

    see attached file.

    I created an empty XY Scatter chart on sheet Tabelle3 with Insert > XY Scatter with line and markers

    I then added two data series

    Sheet1 data series has the x and y values as following

    x ='1'!$A$2:$A$946
    y ='1'!$C$2:$C$946

    The Sheet2 data series has these x and y values

    x ='2'!$A$2:$A$964
    y ='2'!$C$2:$C$964

    With XY Scatter charts, the X and Y axes will show the data in the numerically correct order and distance.

    The data in Sheet 2 has a lot of data points in the X range between 0 and 2. Note how they all seem to pile up in the chart.

    If you use a line chart instead, each X value would receive equal spacing to the next value.

    I hope the XY Scatter chart is what you're after. If English is not your first language, I'd be more than happy to discuss this in German (if I interpret the "ger" in your location as meaning "Germany"). Just pipe up.

    cheers,

    Re: changing resolution of time-axis-data

    That chart is about right, But Isnt that x-axis still distorted in those places where my two data sets had equal values in the lenght column?

    For example arent there really two zeroes on the x-axis?

    If not that is exactly what I needed, I thank you and apologize for this horribly noobish question.

    Re: changing resolution of time-axis-data

    Leo,

    there is only one zero on the X axis. It shows as a label BELOW the axis. The other zero is a label for the Y axis and shows to the LEFT of the Y axis.

    The X axis is not distorted in the file I attached. The scale of the axis is separated into equal divisions of numbers, with increments of 5, i.e. 0 - 5 - 10 - 15 etc.

    The chart may be easier to interpret if the series are plotted as lines without data markers.

    See attached.

    cheers,
