    Total $ of data chart

I have attached a chart that was recently requested. The data is included in the workbook. I have to total each of the horizontal label (milestone, hosting, etc). How do I do that without having to have a separate cell like I am currently doing or having the data charted

    thanks for the help!

    Hello,

the problems arise from the unfortunate data layout. Use a flat table with the columns

project, fiscal year, date, category, Projected, Actual

Then you can build a pivot table from that data and the results are automatically summed. See attached, sheet 2

    cheers,

Here is another option that preserves your layout. I only changed the cells in green.

pmalen, as I understand the question, it was not about what formula to use but how to avoid having to enter a formula at all. The pivot table is the only option that avoids having to insert a separate column for totals.
