    .xlsm Properties

I have a macro enabled spreadsheet that I have on a shared work server. The file is to be used by many employees, but I'm having troubles with the file type properties.

I have it saved as an .xlsm but the problem is that each user needs to enable the developer ribbon, change the macro security settings and then reopen the file to make the macros work.

I cannot save it as a pre-2003 xls file because of the complexity of some of the formulas in other cells and the use of VB.

Is there a way to save this type of file so that it prompts users to "enable macros" like some of the older .xls files I have?

    Hello,

to set the macro security for a user it is not necessary to open the developer toolbar. These settings are set at the Excel application level. I'm not in front of 2007 right now, but it's accessed by clicking the Office Globe. Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Excel Options. In the Trust Center category, click Trust Center Settings, and then click the Macro Settings category.

    for more information, see http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ex...010096919.aspx

    cheers,

    Re: .xlsm Properties

is there a way to prompt a user to allow macros in an xlsm file? I just don't want to try and pass to over 100 people that they need to go in and change their excel properties to accommodate a file.

    thanks for the help!

If you are in a corporate environment, these settings can be applied via GPO. Talk to your IT people.
