Hi guys!!
Once again, if someone help me with this problem, it would save me several hours!!
I'm a student and I'm writing my thesis about Mergers and Acquisitions.
I've got a list of codes given in this format, all together in one cell:
1311/4412/2812/2813/2816/2819/2911
I need to put each of the first 6 codes into one cell. Which means at the end I will have:
COLUMN B: 1311
COLUMN C: 4412
COLUMN D: 2812
COLUMN E: 2813
COLUMN F: 2816
COLUMN G: 2819
Some companies have less than 6 codes. And I don't need the codes after the 6th one.
Is there a way to do this distribution to several cells?
It would be awesome!!

Hi glux,
I expect you have many lines like your example above. I'd suggest you read about Import a Text file using a delimeter. You should have the delimiter as the "/" character. This would import your line in to what I think you want.
You can search on the terms above or read http://www.online-tech-tips.com/cool...iles-in-excel/ to see if it helps.
One test is worth a thousand opinions.

There is probably a far more elegant way for this, but =left(text, chars) and mid(text, start, chars)...repeated for the "sets" you need, will spit the string how you want it.
See attached file
Hi Glux,
I would suggest you to use Text - to - Column feature of MS Excel, as Marvin suggested, and then you can always delete the column data after column G
