Pivot table to display qualitative data

Hi

This is a really simple question but I have excel 2003 and cannot seem to get my pivot table to display qualitative data.

I have different product names and information about each product under different columns

Is it possible to make a pivot table that displays the data based on different criteria? For some reason I can only figure out how to make it count the grand total of numbers but I have no numeric data only qualitative.
