    Data table of a chart

Hi, I have a data table below a chart. I want to do the below two things to the data table. Could someone please tell me how to go about it. I am using Excel 2013.

    1. Change the ordering of the rows in the data table.
    2. Hide/Remove a row from the data table but keep the plotting in the chart intact.

    Thanks.

Re: Data table of a chart

New to this. I have very large set of data. Its a chart with quarterly report financials with columns as quarters and rows as items. I did a chart with a data table below it, like I said before. Now, here is what I want to do:

    1. Change the order of some rows in the data table. I dont want to change the rows if the original table but only in the data table below the chart.
    2. Remove some rows while their data is still plotted in the chart.
    3. for example quarter 3 and quarter 4 results are not out and hence the table columns for those two columns are empty. Can I format the chart with the data table such that it won't plot them. And in future when quarter 3 data is available, it will do it automatically and so on.

Hope I make sense and I would really appreciate your help.

    Thanks.

Re: Data table of a chart

You have very limited control over the data table.

Items can not be excluded from table alone.
Order is a reflection of plot order and series chart type and axes used. You can not specify exact order.
All categories are include in data table.

If you want a well formatted data table consider using worksheet cells and aligning the chart above those cells.

Re: Data table of a chart

    Thanks Andy. One last thing,

I have the same chart with quarterly report financials with columns as quarters and rows as items.

    - for example quarter 3 and quarter 4 results are not available yet and hence the table columns for those two columns are empty/zero. Can I format the chart (with the data table still shown below it) such that it won't plot the quarters with zero or null values. And in future when quarter 3 data is available, it will plot it automatically and so on. Right now the chart and data table shows empty Q3 and Q4. This takes space and does not look nice.

    Thanks.

Only way to avoid that is not include it in the chart.
You can use dynamic named ranges to automatically resize number of categories. There are many examples on the forum.
