I am using Excel 2013 and there are times when it will not let me choose the option add this data to the data model which gives me access to the distinct count function. Any idea why this is happening and how I can stop it. This is happening about 50% of the time.
Is the data in a table or normal range?

Just a Normal named ranged. But it works 50% of the time.
If the workbook is an .xls format, you can't have a data model. Would that explain it?
nice thought but no it is .xlsm
Do you have an existing, non-data model, pivot table built off that range?
I do not have any other pivot tables in this workbook.
