Displaying Top Items in a Pivot by Multiple Conditions

    All,

I need to figure out how to show the Top 1, dollar value, for each Year & Qtr along with Customer name.

In the file, I highlighted in yellow which Items should be shown on the Pivot Table after the Top 10 filter is set to 1. See below

    Q1-2013 = 200
    Q2-2013 = 400
    Q3-2013 = 600
    Q4-2013 = 500
    Q1-2014 = 400
    Q2-2014 = 500
    Q3-2014 = 500
    Q4-2014 = 700

I'm not sure if there's a grouping method that can be applied or something to accomplish this.

In the file I attached, I included PT1 tab that is linked to DATA1 tab and PT2 tab that is linked to DATA2 tab. I did this set up because I was also having issues with the charts showing the data in the X axis out of order.

However, I want to be able to work with both types of DATA source sets up: one with the Qtr & Year combined into one column or one that has the Year & Qtr on separate columns.

Lastly, when this pivot table shows the items I need, I want to also be able to use a Pivot Table Chart to see each item plotted on a graph with the values on the Y axis and the Year,Qtr,Customer Name showing on the X axis.

Please let me know the best way to achieve this objective for this project.

You can do this easily, without having to use Pivot Tables. Take a look at this - from here you can easily assemble the charts you need.

Re: Displaying Top Items in a Pivot by Multiple Conditions

Thank so much for your immediate response. This is great and I'm aware of those type of array formula solutions. However, I'm trying to stay away from having to create complex formula based solutions and focus more on Pivot Table solutions because that is the direction I am converting my data management to as its more easier for me to use on the fly. Not to mention, the Dynamic Filtering Options that are on the Pivot Table Charts are extremely useful when the chart is not on the same worksheet as the data especially when using Dashboards and stuff.

So, can this be done by using a Pivot Tables methods? If so, can someone show me an example of what the that would look like and how my pivot table filters should be set at?

Because all my other projects work perfectly its just this one particular scope of conditions that I can't get to work on a Pivot Table and I know this is just as easy on a Pivot Table I'm just not sure how to properly set up the Pivot Table Row Labels or Column Labels and or Grouping methods possibly that would allow me to product the same results without using array formulas and such.

I saw a youtube video from Contextures called: Apply Multiple Filters to Pivot Table Field. However, I still can't get my stuff to work in a Pivot Table with the particular conditions I need. I would be really grateful if someone can show me how, because I want to learn how to do this in a Pivot Table because it seems so simple.
