    Lightbulb Occluded Bar Charts

    Hi everyone,

I would like to produce bar charts that present two numbers in one column. For example, reporting actual and estimated values from 2014 sales compared with 2015 sales would have one bar for each year, with, say, an opaque bar for actual numbers and a translucent bar extending above to represent the total (in addition to those sold) expected to be sold.
Bottom line, I do not want a stacked bar chart that just adds the values together. I need a graph with data points from one time point presented together, i.e. 2014 and 2015. I can safely assume all estimates will be larger than actual numbers.

    Thanks for any help,
    D

DBY that looks great! It's a little fancier than what I had in mind, but it's more than enough for my needs.

Glad its of use. As you wanted Opaque and Translucent I thought I'd fancy it up a bit.

If it's not too involved, could you explain how you got that graph formatted that way? Thanks again, DBY!

If you're referring to the colouring, with the fill colours of the Estimate bars, I select each series choose the colour, then adjust the transparency level. With the Actuals I chose one of the Shape styles from the Format ribbon of the chart. The plot area I filled light black 25% and the horizontal grid lines light black 50%.

DBY, I just wanted to be sure I thanked you again. This is exceptionally helpful. Now to translate my fancy new formatting skills into a reliable macro...

You're welcome. Good luck with the macro, I do a little VBA myself and answer the occasional thread but I'm far from an expert as my profile embarrassingly says. If you need help I'm sure someone here will be able to give some guidance
