box and whisker plot x axis

    Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if that's the right place in the forum for this question, but I will give it a try.

I have 3 sets of data that I need to plot. Using Box and Whisker plot I am getting this:
    box1.PNG

I need the 3 sets to be positioned on x axis not arbitrary. So there should be a bigger gap between 4 and 5.

Is there a way of doing this?

    Many thanks for your comments.

Short but useless answer -- yes, there is a way to do this.

Are you familiar with the different horizontal axis types that Excel uses? If not, this is a good review: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/ChartsH...ValueAxis.html

My first suggestion is to put your chart together so it uses a "date" axis. Date axes only work with integer data, so you will need some way to convert your 3.5, 4.0, and 5.0 to integer values (will it be enough to multiply by 10?). Then use those values for the actual x axis values. That should allow you to get the kind of spacing you want.

    Does that help?

I will note that it is difficult to provide more specific suggestions based on a picture. I would recommend you upload a sample of your spreadsheet/chart with what you have done to create this chart so we have something to try our solutions on.

    Thanks for your reply MrShorty.

I am actually struggling with these axes. I attached my spreadsheet to this post. I will appreciate your help.

Unfortunately, my older version of Excel does not support the built in box and whisker plot. Perhaps if you describe exactly what you have tried getting the date axis set up, I couild suggest something. Otherwise, hopefully someone with a newer version of Excel can step in and suggest something.
