change number format for value on chart series point when I hover the cursor over it

This is probably a simple question.

When I hover the cursor over a point in an Excel chart it shows details on that point (series name, point, value). However, in some charts the value is shown in date format, not as a number or percentage. How can I show this a in either the number format of the source data, or the number format of the axis on which it is represented?

Not enough information here! I can't see the vertical axis (Y axis). This is what provides the Value.

For some reason Excel must think you are charting dates, but I cant tell without seeing the data.

Can you attach a scaled down version of your workbook?

You don't need to provide the whole workbook.
Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need.
It would help if you show a BEFORE and AFTER sheet in the workbook to demonstrate the process.
Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.*

In trying to extract the sheet with values for you (its part of a large workbook with lots of external links) I found the solution.

The chart is a time series of annual % changes and the data in the source range is (or appeared to be) formatted as 0.0%. But it's part of a suite a charts most of which go back for 20 years, and this particular time series isn't that long yet, so the first few observations are currently NA() and get progressively overwritten with actual values as new data are released.

For some reason, the NA() data values were formatted as dates, but this was not obvious looking at them because of the NA() format. The chart was takings its cue for the series values format from the first observation in each series. Once I changed the number format for these cells, the chart displayed values as I wanted.
