My son is trying to reverse the x and y axis on an Excel chart. I don't
believe you can but I thought I should ask.

One way is to select the chart, then choose Chart | Source Data | Series,
and respecify the ranges for X Values and Y Values.

Thank you Mike for your assistance (this is the aforementioned "son"
speaking). My father forgot to mention a few specifics about the dilemma: the
assignment requires that I present a series of depths and ore concentrations
on both a scatter plot (y relating to x) and a line plot (depths are
categories) for the purposes of comparing the efficiencies of both plots (and
by extension, excel). Now, the scatter plot was easy, I found how to invert
those values (thanks for the help). However, for the line plot, my difficulty
is in establishing the category axis as the y axis and not the x-axis as the
default. The end goal is to have the depth value on the y axis so it
ressembles the layering of the earth in terms of depth (0 at the x-intercept,
99 as the last category, out of 22 seperate drilling depths).
I accept that you may not be able to do it... (if that`s true, I have my
doubts about the fairness of this assignment)... but thanks anyway for trying.
Excel line charts were designed to only allow categories along the
horizontal axis, but you can fake it with an XY chart and a dummy series to
hold the axis labels:
