Thread: tangent line

i have derived graph in microsoft excel sheet.i want to draw the
tangent line for that graph.but i do not know equation for the graph.
in x and y axis i have some values.i want particular point of xaxis to
draw the tangent line for the graph that would be meet the particular
point of the curve from that point i want to find out corresponding y
value for the graph. please any body know about tangent line for graph
help me.

1 Use LINEST to find the equation of the line (I am assuming polynomial) -
see my website fro details

2 Differentiate the line of best fit to find the slope (m) at point x; this
is also the slope of the tangent
3 Use y=mx + b for 2 x-points on each side of the know x to find two x,y
pairs
4 Make a line with these two points (use copy followed by Paste Special; New
series)

i have derived graph in excel. in that i want to draw the tangent line
from the particular point from the x axis.in this case by using the
trend line i could not get the line properly .so i could not find out
the equation. i want to know about moving graph option .is there any
way to find out tangent line by using this option.please help me.in
this case i have done some things another way. by using x,y axis
values ihave formulated the triangle by using this triangle i have find
out tangent angle.to find out tangent point from the graph i find out
minimum angle in the triangle .though i could not trace the point
accurately. please help me .
