As long as the chart is on the worksheet I can adjust the legend font size to match the axis and heading font so that things have acceptable proportions.
However, when I print the chart the axis and headings fonts are scaled up ti fit the paper, whereas the legend is unaltered and the the proportions are suddenly completely different.
How can I set Excel up to scale both axis, heading, legend, etc. with the same factor?

Not quite sure whether this is what you want, but if you click on the outer edge of the chart...so that the whole chart is selected....then go up to the toolbar and select the font size there? This will change all fonts on the chart to the same size.

It will not work as I want the heading to be size 16, axis size 8, axis title 8 bold, legend size 6, etc.
The problem is that everything except legend is scaled up when printing, so it remains virtually invisible on the print.
OK, how about clicking on the Title, then select font size, click on Legend, then select font size, click X axis...etc

That is exactly what I do, but when it comes to printing, the whole chart EXCEPT the legend is scaled up to fit the paper.

Can you post a zipped copy and I'll see if the same happens for me?

The same thing happens to me all the time. Very annoying.
I just end up making my legend artificially large on the screen and seeing what happens. You get a general jist for it over time.
Not the best response i know but hey it works.
I'll be keeping an eye on this to see if there's a better way.
Cheers

Attached a zip-file with an example. It is sensitive information, so I have taken out some data and manipulated them (hopefully) beyond all recognition.
If someone can give me a tip as how to add a heading to the legend - in this case it should be MIS - I'd be grateful.

Try this, click on the legend, make it larger, then right click, format Font and click on Auto-Scale. For some reason if you format first, then Format to Auto-Scale it doesn't seem to work?
