Chart based on date

I have a sheet with about 500 rows. The sheet shows projects assigned over the last few months with all kinds of columns...one of which shows the assigned date. I am trying to create a chart based on amount assigned per week. Anyone have an idea of how I would do this? Thanks!

Im using excel 2007, maybe the format will change a bit.
What I did is grouped the assigned dates into weeks by Month (example is July W1 as July Week 1 and so on...) which is in column C, sheet named Data.
Then I added a cloumn for counts, with each project = 1, this is for pivot counting purposes

Made a pivot table, filter the weeks you want by checking it (Per week).
Then made a pivot chart based from the pivot table results.

The Pivot table chart updates when you select "Per week" from the Pivot table.

Hope this gives you an idea.
