    Line Chart formatting

I am trying to create a line chart within excel that graphs mpg’s per fill up. I want to format the line so it appears one way when the drive type for the tank is “highway” and another way when the drive type for that tank is “city”. I was able to reproduce what I’m after manually but need to find a way to reproduce this automatically.

I have attached a spreadsheet detailing what I am after. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

    Hi there,

I know I way to do it through lists and a visual basic macro, but would that help you?

If so I will create the macro and post the solution, otherwise I don't know how to get this done...

    Hi Jevni,

That would be great if you wouldn't mind. I need all the help i can get! I've worked on it a little bit farther and i've pretty much automated the process but now the spreadsheet is running very slowly when entering data due to the number of formulas needed to create the proper formatted source data for the chart to reference.

I'll attach my latest spreadsheet for anyone interested.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Attached you find an updated version of the file you attached in your latest post.

On the GasGraph sheet I have created a table (list) that feeds the graph.
I used a list, because rows are automatically added at the end when new data is added. This will also automatically update the series in the graph.

Press the green button after you updated your registration and the graph is updated automatically.

the code you can find when starting the Visual Basic Editor (ALT F11)
or by selecting it form the Tools -> Macro menu.

    Hope it helps
