Can I chart something to look like a calendar?

    Hello all. New poster here.

I have a question about displaying data, associated with a date, into a calendar view. I was hoping there's a chart that would do that, but am not sure.

I'm looking to take a column of names and a column of dates and display the names according to the corresponding dates in a calendar display.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

It should be possible to do something like that.
Would use of code be a problem?

    Is this a monthly view?
How many people are likely to need displaying in any one chart and in any 1 period slot within the chart?

    Do you have example data
    Cheers

I personally don't have any experience with code, but I'd be very willing to muddle through it.

It is a monthly view. There are anywhere from 0 to 20 names on any given day. The names don't repeat.

My original example is simplified from what I'm actually looking for. I have the fields [invoice] [customer name] [requested date] & [number of hours] that get displayed according to what day they're assigned to.

For example, on 5/22, I'm looking at invoice #'s 2100, 2627, 2678, & 2689 with their corresponding customer name, requested date, & number of hours. Each invoice & info is one line. Kind of like the appointments as displayed in the monthly calendar in Outlook.

Thanks for the brain power Andy!

I had to resort to code in order to build the multiple text strings when a day has more than 1 entry.

Obviously you are limited in the formatting of the data labels but this appears to work quite well.

Let me know what you think.

    Wow! Thanks!

I think I figured out how most of it works, but I can't seem to get the data within the calendar to update. Is there a step for that?

    Thanks again Andy!

In my example all you need to do is change the Month in cell I2 via the data validation drop down list.

I got that done, but I'm looking at the actual job information within the calendar. I changed some of the job #'s and customer names but they don't show up in the calendar. Even the original data doesn't seem to update.

It was on January, I then changed it to May and then input my May invoice, customer and requested date info.

Do I need to recreate the chart? Thanks for your help!

EDIT for clarification. I didn't just input the new data, I replaced 18 rows of the old data. If that helps...

    Start with my example.
If you change to February there would be 3 items for the 8th,13th and 17th.

Does the chart update to reflect this change?
If not have you enabled Macros for this file? Is Calculation set to automatic?

If that works that what changes did you make and where?

    Got it!

I had to set the security level to low and reopen the file. Works now!

    Glad you got it working.

I would set the security level to Medium so you at least get prompt before opening workbooks with code.
