I am having a problem displaying the right data within my pivot chart. In my excel book I have different products as rows and monthly sales as columns with totals at the end. I would like my pivot chart to display a line graph where each line is a product, the sales amounts are on the y-axis and the months are on the x-axis. Currently I have not had luck in finding a way to do this as it always charts the months as the lines with the sales amount on the y-axis and the products on the x-axis. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
If you create the chart how you want you will see how the pivot table needs to be laid out. I don't think you can have it how you want. With a normal chart the option would be to plot by Rows or Columns.
I was able to make the chart I wanted with a simple line graph but I am really looking to make it into a pivot chart so that I can add more series' and add/subtract axis units without having to create new charts or more series'. You can take a look at the file I'm working on to see what I mean here http://rapidshare.com/files/11812530...ied_.xlsx.html .
I can not see how to use your table as the data for a pivot table and get the layout you require.
Normally the data would not be cross tabbed like you have it. Date or period would be a field rather than multiple fields.
Even so the series/categories of a pivot chart appear fixed in relation to rows and columns of the pivot table. So if you want 2 different layouts you will need 2 pivot tables. One of which drives the pivot chart.
I was able to solve the problem by selecting the data, copying it, then using the paste special command to transform the data so the rows and columns were switched. I could then use excels pivot chart function so that it would show the data properly.
