Combination chart and formatting

Hi there,
I'm attempting to do something in Excel 03 that seems to be a bit over my head.
I'm trying to make the problem as clear as possible, so please forgive me if it seems repetitive!

I’ve managed to complete this process in a vertical format, however horizontally is the preferred method, and I’m not sure if there is a way to do this.
Alternatively, is there a way to rotate a completed chart in a vertical format, thus making it horizontal?

Here is the problem at hand:
Essentially, I need to create a combined stacked bar chart and a line(dots, really). This is sort of like a Gantt Chart I believe, considering the data.
I have the stacked bar chart made in the format I need it. Company A, B, and C on the Y axis, with a timeline (in months) on X. There is a start date and an end date for each company, and a bar representing the duration of this process.

I need to add points along each bar representing specific dates (like a milestone marker), and it has to be a process that is relatively simple to change the date and have it auto add a marker in the timeline where it needs to be.

Each company may have numerous milestones for each month.

I cant for the life of me figure out how to do this, I've tried numerous ways with this particular format.

If its helpful here are some of the dates I've used:
Milestone 1 Milestone 2 Milestone 3
Company A 5/1/08 5/25/08 6/8/08
Company B 6/1/08 6/10/08 N/A
Company C 5/15/08 6/1/08 6/5/08

Whenever I attempt to plot this data, the X axis reads "Company A, Company B, Company C" with the timeline on the Y axis.
Is there a way to plot this data with a timeline on the X axis and the Company names on the Y axis, with the dates plotted as individual marks?

Ideally, as mentioned before, I would like the existing bars to remain in a horizontal format.

What exactly am I missing here?

Thank you in advance!

Actually yes, thats exactly what I meant, thankyou!

Do you remember the steps you took to format the chart in this way? It would be helpful for me in the future if additional changes need to be made to the data in question.

create bar chart on one set of data, which will be used to display company names.

Add 3 more data series via the Source data dialog.
Change the chart type of these to xy-scatter.
Go back to the Source Data dialog and set the x and y ranges for each series.

Delete the secondary value axis, which should force the scatter series to use the dates on the horizontal axis.

Format each series as required
format bar series to remove actual bars
