    Stacked Bar chart sorting

    Hello all,
I have created a pivot table where the Value Field Settings are set as "% of Row". The resultant table I am charting but I want the values to be sorted in the chart from left to right so I have 100% of one of the values in the column on the left, down to 0% of this value in the column on the right. This is intended to provide a clear view of the data rather than one where you need to keep inspecting the graph to see which ones have done better.
My problem is that I cannot sort the data in the pivot table. I can do this on other chart types using numbers but not on this 100% stacked column chart. What I have to do is manually reorder each row until I have them sorted, but for a large dataset this takes quite a while and I have lot of these graphs. I have attached an example image of the data I am trying to sort.. I hope this is clear, and that someone can advise how to do this.
    Thanks
    Paul.

A pivot chart will only chart what is in the pivot table. So if you can not sort the table you will not be able to sort the chart.

    Pivot Sorting

Shame... because I can manually sort it.

    Thanks for the clarification though.

    Regards

    Paul.

    Stacked Bar Chart Sorting

    Hello Andy,

Thanks for taking a look at this, it would be useful if there is a way to do this. The graph is set as I am am using it. What I am doing is dragging the rows in the pivot table one at a time until I have 100% at the top of column C, headed True, and then the graph presents itself in a way that is more meaningful. If I could sort column C it would be far easier.

    Regards

    Try this.
    Select cell B5 on Sheet2
    Click the A-Z sort icon
    Cheers

ok - I had tried this but I tried again just to make sure. Wouldn't be the first time I'd done something daft.

It does sort, but I think by the actual values and not by the percentages, so the result is that the column is still not sorted correctly.

I've completed the task manually now, but I would be interested if anyone knows how to force a sort when the chart is a 100% stacked column and you want the graph to display largest to smallest from one end.

Thanks for taking a look anyway.

    Regards

    Paul

Smile Sorting Data in a Pivot Table for a Chart

If the data in the pivot table is not in the correct order, create a new table and point to the data in the pivot table in the order you want it. Then build your chart off the table instead of the pivot table.
