overly narrow columns from time series chart in excel 2007

    Hi there,

I have attached a problem I'm having with representing both column and line data over about a 1 year time period. I want to have a date axis on my x axis to show equal periods of time, but when I do that, the column data is so narrow it's barely visible, as well these multiple column series overlap on one another.

I've tried to adjust overlap/gap settings but it makes a negligible difference from what I've tried.

What may complicate matters is I have two axes - a primary axis that features the column data, and a secondary axis that is a line series. The lines look fine but the columns need to be visible and legible!

I've tried fooling around with 3D graphs - the column width is good for the primary axis, but I can't seem to find a secondary axis in this mode nor can I change part of the data to another type of series (i.e. line series).

Select the X axis and on the format dialog set the axis to be Text rather than time series.

Unfortunately, a text series would not allow any dates to be proportionally distanced from one another. I need to keep a date axis to show equal periods of time across the graph.

I've tried to work with borders but the overlap is too great.

If you keep the time series axis then the column will be skinny as there is not enough physical space to get all that information in.

You maybe able to use a categorical axis where certain categories are skipped.
You would need to calculate a proportion between columns to give the illusion of date distance.
