Question: how to cut out the middle part of a bar

Hello, I am new to this forum and so maybe the answer to my question is already contained in its 100+ pages. Rather than read through these 100 pages and rather than use the search function since I don't know what the appropriate search terms should be I am seeking an answer to the following question:

I am creating a bar graph that has about a dozen bars with the y axis having a value from 0 to 22000. Can I create a graph where the middle portion of each bar is removed? What I would like is a graph that has a Y axis from 0 to 1000, then have a break point, and then resume starting around 15,000 and ending at 22,000. I see these graphs all the time but I am not aware if they can be created using Excel.

    Thanks for your help.
