Charting without using Numerical Values

Hey,

Here's what i'm working with (please see attached spreadsheet):
I have a project with 5 phases.
Each Phase has a certain number of Activities associated with it.
Each Activity has a Start and End date.

I want to display the graph in such a way that:
The x-axis represents date
The y-axis represents the Phase
The actual chart is a horizontal bar (one per phase) and the bar is divided into sections, each one representing an activity. So it would look something like:
......................___________
Identification: l PKO l SS(ID)l

I want to represent how long each phase in the project will take, and show what activities compose each phase. Ideally, each activity within the graphed phase bar is as long or short as its duration (start -> end date)

In the attached file i have a macro which i've used to populate the second table. Ignore this; its just one of many things that i tried in order to figure this out.

What you did in your spreadsheet is not exactly what i'm looking for; You see how in column A of my original spreadsheet it lists the 5 different Phases (Identification, options analysis, etc...). I want a chart with 5 horizontal bars, 1 for each of those phases and within each bar i'd like to see the activities that compose it.

So this would mean that the first bar would be labeled "identification" on the Y-axis and be divided into two parts "PKO" and "SS(ID)", the 2 activities done within that phase. Just like in my make-shift drawing in my first post.

The X axis would be date, just like in your spreadsheet, and i want (if possible) to have the dates for each activity within the horizontal bar be in the correct start and end date position.

Does that make sense?

Additionally; how did you get the bars in each of your graphs to appear shifted the way they are? When i tried plotting my values all the bars had the same starting point (Y axis) and they only extended forward for the duration.

You can add the summery-level items and format them differently. There's probably additional flexibility in Excel 2007.

That's all the suggestions I have.
