Hello,
I want to create a scatter chart using an Excel table that contains milions euro, years (2000-2008) and the 27 countries from EU. I thought about a scatter chart (my finance teacher recomended that) butI have a problem with my values. On the chart we can see countries with large values and their evolution, but the other countries with small and almost the same values are all in the same place. Can I make a better scatter chart? If not, could you recommend another type of chart for my data?
Here is my table and chart

thanks and sorry for my english :D
Hi, maybe if you set the Y axis to logarithmic scale?
Here is a tutorial by Tushar Mehta: http://www.tushar-mehta.com/excel/ne...cale/help.html

Avoid pie charts with more than two data points. Why? See here (pdf, 559 kb). The only acceptable pie chart is here.
Thanks for your assistance!
I tried using logarithmic scale, base10 but I have the same problem. This is the result: http://i48.tinypic.com/fvcpk5.jpg
maybe its because many countries have almost same values...
Maybe you need to take a step back and think about what the chart should actually show.
Do you really need all countries visible at all times? If so, you need to fine tune your parameters for the Y axis, so the values are easier to distinguish, and make the chart really, really tall
Maybe you need several charts to display all the information. One for each bandwidth area, e.g. one for the countries in the 100 -1000 range, another one for the 1000 to 10,000 range and a third one for the big players.
Maybe you want to highlight just a single country, or let the user select a country to focus on? Then you need an interactive chart solution. Very good examples and tutorials can be found on Jon Peltier's site www.peltiertech.com
Here is an article about letting the user choose which data series to highlight:
http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/ParallelCoord.html
The following article shows how to adjust the Y axis depending on a cell value. It requires some VBA, but Jon supplies all you need.
http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/...nkToSheet.html
Maybe, after studying these approaches, you can come up with a combined approach, where the user selects several countries to highlight in the overall chart, and the axis scale is adjusted to the selected country/countries.
Think outside of the box!
