How to copy formatting from one chart to another in Excel 2007

I have googled this for a while, and found very few results on the topic. Probably, this is something people find rather obvious, or they do not copy charts formats that often. Or I am using wrong keywords.

The problem is simple: there is one chart in the worksheet that I would like to use as a basis for all other existing charts.

So I am looking for a way to copy all formats (axis formats, title formats, graph formats, etc). In Excel 2002, there was paste special, but it seems to be gone in 2007. I copy one chart, right click another; but there is only "Cut, Copy, Paste, Reset to Match Style, etc.). No paste special And predominant Google concesus advise to use "Paste Special". How do I do this? Did they remove Paste Special, or simply moved it somewhere else?

    Hi Amphibia,

they removed an awful lot of useful charting functionality with Excel 2007. No more F4 to repeat the last formatting activity and lots of other stuff got lost or way more complicated. The charting Gurus around the world are still seething and only slowly begin to recover after they have been playing with Excel 2010 beta, which brings some functionality back.

I guess the best way to deal with this is to take you perfectly formatted chart and then create a chart template. Select the perfect chart, and on the Chart tools Design tab click Save as Template on the left of the ribbon and save the template.

Then, select the data for a new chart, click Insert - Charts - Other Charts - Templates and click the icon for the template. In their ingenuity, they also missed the chance to label your templates, so you have to give them a real good meaningful name that will show up when you hover the mouse over the template icon.

It's not ideal, but it's the only way it works right now.

Thanks, Microsoft! Almost as brilliant as the redesign of this forum.

Avoid pie charts with more than two data points. Why? See here (pdf, 559 kb). The only acceptable pie chart is here.

    Hi,
Chandoo was kind enough to put the 'Paste Special' for charts tip on his website recently.

Paste Special for charts is still in XL 2007, just not in the Right-Click menu.

Try: Select chart, CRTL+C, select chart to receive formatting, from the 'Home" ribbon select 'Paste Special" & you'll see three options, "ALL", "Formats", "Formulas".

Paste Special; Formats has worked Ok for me - haven't tried the other options.
