Question Graphing problem with power of N

    Hi friends,
I am new in this forum; specifically I am here for my needs, to overcome a problem which I have been facing nowadays.
I want to put the data [picture a] in excel chart and need a graph just like picture b.
    But I am in vain.
I want to put 10 to the power 11 but in excel it shows [1E+11] and in excel graph it also shows as [1E+11] instead of 10 to the power 11 but I want the data as picture b.

Please friends help me how to overcome this problem.

    Best Wishes,
    Oindril

The article was written for Excel 2003. Do you know how to open the Paste Special dialog in Excel 2007?

    Select the data,
    copy
    click the chart
click the Paste dropdown on the home ribbon
    select Paste special
    tick "new series"
tick "Series name in first row"
tick " Categories (X) labels in first column"

    hit OK

Re: Graphing problem with power of N

Oindril, I gave you instructions for Excel 2007.

If you can't find the home ribbon, then I'm afraid I can't help.

Exponential notation has not changed from Excel 2003 to 2007. Maybe you need to get a better understanding of how Excel works in general?

Re: Graphing problem with power of N

    oindril,

if you want your result to be like the second picture attachment in your first post, you need only one data series. Assign row 4 to the X value and row 5 to the Y value.

Then simply format your axes with a different number format than the exponential.

Then again, with row 4 and 5 as x and y values, all but three of your values overlap, so I'm not sure if this is really what you want.

Do you want the X axis on a scale of 1 to 10, as your attached file suggests, or do you want the X axis to carry values as your attached picture suggests? Slightly confused.

You may want to provide a better data sample with some more explanation.

Re: Graphing problem with power of N

    Hello oindril,

see what you can do with the attached. I understand from your attached drawing that you want to plot the numbers in four "buckets" or positions on the XY Chart. The data in column C does not go into the chart, but I created a new column to assign the data points in column D their appropriate "bucket" or position on the X axis.

I then created a XY chart with the data in columns D and E, with a log scale Y axis and the X axis crossing at value 1.

Next, I created two helper series to substitue the axis labels on the X and the Y axis.

After setting the original axes labels to "none", I added the two series to the chart and then used the Chart Labeler add-in to assign them the labels I defined next to the series data.

As a final step, you need to format the two data series to have no markers. I left them in for the time being, so you can still see them. So you need to select the red squares and format them to have no data markers, and do the same for the green triangles.

Does that do what you want?

oindril, I already gave step by step instructions above. I will not give you a tutorial on how to create charts.

Have a look at www.peltiertech.com for tutorials.
