Date minus date in days

Dear Friends
This is a great forum of sharp minds.
I am working for a public Health program and need to know how I get the difference of two dates in days. e.g
Cell A1 has date one and cell A2 has date 2 (both in mm/dd/yy format). I need the difference in days of these two dates in A3.

Thanks for reply. This is the first thing I tried, does not work. Another related information- the excel sheet I am working with is the output of mdb file (MS Excess). We eneterd dated in mdb, converted to excel and try to subtract one date from other

Assuming 23-03-13 on Cell A2, 16-09-09 on Cell B2, copy paste this formula on Cell C2

If my formula is not working then in A1 and/or A2 does not contain a date.
This can happen when you import data from another program.
You see a date but excel sees it as text.
use the formula from Lem.
If that doesn't work post a file here.
