Slovin’s Formula in Excel (Calculating Survey Sample Size)

    Hello All,

If anyone can help me with an formular that has had me somewhat stumped for the last few weeks now, I would be eternally grateful !

I am trying to create the above "Slovin's" formula which is used to calculate a sample size based on the population size, "confidence level" and "Margin of Error" Ive looked all over the web and found many formulas as to how to do this but have been able to successfully implement into into excel (have came close but its not been able to produce a constantly correct result)

The best on-line calculator that i've seen also has the formula, so hopefully no one will mind if i post links there as that's the best way to explain it !

Calculator (Effectively what i want to recreate in excel) - http://www.surveysystem.com/sscalc.htm#one
    Formula http://www.surveysystem.com/sample-size-formula.htm

I know I'm a newbie here, but if anyone can help i would be extremely grateful !

    Many Thanks,

    Matt

    Hi Matt,

    Give this a try.

    Confidence Level: 95%
    Confidence Interval: 4
Population: Whatever you put in range("A1") / Replace the "A1" in the formula with an integer.

    Hope this helps

    Matt

Matt ! (Good name by the way)

Cant thank you enough ! This is what I have been searching for, for so long ! If you've ever near Cambridge I owe you a pint !

The formula works a treat, I just change the 1.96 for 2.57 (the so called "Z" number") to get a 99% confidence level and equally for the confidence interval too !

Again, thank you so much I really am eternally grateful !

    All the very best

    Matt

    Not a problem,

I had the same issue a while back, so I just had to dig out the worksheet where I had worked it out

    Happy I could help.
