I would like to be able to filter the attached numbers differently than what the numbers filter offers. I would like to be able to sort a group of numbers like in 3's or 4's. Is this possible?

I am a newbie, can you please give me step by step instructions where to put this macro and what to do? MANY MANY THANKS!!! This will save me a lot of time
Hi Larbec,
I hate to burst your bubble but, I must have misread your post or just grabbed the wrong code and answered for a sorting method instead of a filtering method.
However, I was looking for a way to filter on more than two criteria and figured it out. Look at my post pertaining to it, There is a youtube link with a video describing how to do it and I have a sample attached. In your case it should be pretty simple.
http://www.excelforum.com/excel-prog...own-lists.html
I watched the video and I do not understand how to set up the filter. He is using agents and i want to find number sequences. What am I missing?
Not to complicate things it would be nice to be able to find an exact match. I have added a column F and notes under I and J
Hi Larbec,
No, not possible. The filter method in the link from the YouTube video will allow you to add as many filter items to any column you want to but, for instance if you tell the filter to only show you 4 AND 8 then all rows in that column which are either 4 OR 8 will be shown. It won't pull in things like what you gave as an example in post #6; 4, 8, 4 and only those specific rows, without also pulling in every other row containing a 4 or an 8. As far as I know, with my understanding of Excel, it's not possible to do what you are asking with the way you have your data setup.
Thanks for the good news LOL, is there any way for me to do what I am trying to accomplish?
Lol, well I'm not really sure what you are trying to accomplish. It seems like you would need to have additional criteria to sort on in another column that somehow relates to the numbers in your column(s). Can you explain what the numbers mean and what they relate to?
I will try but it really does not matter lol. I have another pretty complex program that has information and I am doing some basic math out to the side that produces these numbers or as I would say "patterns" these numbers have a tendency to repeat themselves and I am searching through 1000's of lines to find "liked" patterns. I have all this info in books (binders) and have about 6 complete and started to realize I will have around 35 books when I am complete and that it will be very time consuming to go line by line. I thought that if I can filter or sort them somehow that would speed up the process which it would. What I attached is exactly what the patterns look like with the addition of some 12's,14's,20's etc... I feel that there has to be someway to do this .....I just can not figure it out. I hope that makes sense to you or helps
Not sure how I can be of any help without another column or two (or three) to use as a basis for filtering. If you can add at least one column that would simplify it, this could possibly be a done deal.

Hi Larbec,
I think I understand, but a filter is not the solution you need. After a bit of research, I think what you are doing (or trying to do) is called data mining. Also, looking back through the posts, you aren't always going to be looking for the same numerical pattern to occur. This is way out of my ability. Excel is definitely the correct tool to use judging by what I've seen through Google search but the concepts are beyond me.
I suggest you change the name of your post (or maybe start a new one) to something more like "Data mining - how do I identify random patterns" so people who understand this stuff might take a look.
Thanks, I will try that
