    *! Conditional formatting help !*

    Hello.

Does anyone know how I can format the colour of a cell to change in the following situation...

I have a spreadsheet where the first column is updated monthly. The data in this column feeds through via various calculations to a final column which outputs the required data.

Since the final coulmn of data is very large, I would like the cells to change colour only if the output has changed from what it was previously. If the output has not changed, then the cell should remain with no fill.

This would make it easier for me to scan the final column to see which figures have change, rather than scan through row by row and compare with the previous version of the spreadsheet.

Is this possible without having to have the previous month's output data present in the spreadsheet?

Many thanks for any help you can give!

No, not with a simple conditional formatting solution. The only way (that I can think of) to do this without having the previous month's output is to use VBA to detect changes and change the cell color when that happens.

    Thanks for the reply.

I thought it might be more difficult than what I was hoping.

Unfortunately VBA is beyond my knowledge so I may just have to build a "Previous Month" column into the spreadsheet and base the conditional formatting on that.

We can help with the VBA if you want to go that direction.

That would be helpful, thank you.

    Is the coding difficult?

How do I go about doing it?

Alternatively, what would be the simple conditional formatting to compare the new data to the previous data, then highlight the cell if the data has changed?

I can't seem to get that to work either...

I've attached a greatly simplied example of the spreadsheet.

So the new data is input into column B each month and that gives an output in column D after various calculations. Column E represents the output data from the previous month.

How can I get the cells in column D to highlight as I have manually shown based on a conditional formatting comparison between columns D and E?

    Many thanks.

    Hi,

    In D4

    Formula: copy to clipboard

or perhaps better still to avoid any potential problems with %s and precision arithmetic differences which shouldn't be a difference

and apply the CF to D4:D29
