Conditional formatting using name ranges and formulas

    Hi all,

Is it possible in the example attached (without using VBA), to enter a formula into the conditional formatting box for cell B13?

All I need it to do is to format blue fill if ID 1-5 is selected, and orange if ID 6-10 is selected. This is just a mock up of a bigger example using multiple name ranges across many worksheets, so I'm trying to understand how this works (if at all).

I've named the ranges "blue" and "orange" as per the fill used.

I want to say "If B13 = 'blue' named range, then fill blue" but I'm not sure if that's possible via a conditional formatting formula?

    Thanks....

Re: Conditional formatting using name ranges and formulas

    Thank you for your reply.

This has worked for this example, however I am looking for a solution using name ranges in the formula, as I need to expand this on a larger scale over several worksheets.

I think I just need to tweak it to include the blue and orange name ranges, but I don't know how to correctly enter the formula.

    Thanks...

Here is your file with the conditional formatting as I understand your requirements. That being if A2:A6 are not blank fill the area A2:E6 with Blue. Otherwise there should be no colour. If A7:A12 are not blank fill A7:E11 with Orange otherwise no fill. Then if a choice is made in A13, match the number with the colour from the above ranges.

Re: Conditional formatting using name ranges and formulas

Thanks again, however the 2 conditions this are based on are using the numbers 1-5, and 6-10.

I need the condition to be set dependant on the name ranges blue and orange, is this possible?
