    Visually hide cell value but keep it for calculations?

    How can I visually hide a cell value in display and print but keep it for calculations (=formulas in other cells can refer to it)?

    Please note: I don't want to move the cell value to another cell (far away). It should be exactly in this cell for calculation reasons.

    And moreover you may format the cell with white font color with conditional formatting so that no one can change the font color of that cell from the format menu. You can use a simple formula for conditional formatting.

    Select the cell (say A1) and make a New Rule for conditional formatting using the below formula and set the font color as white.

    Ok, but that works only if the cell background is white as well.

    What if the cell background is in another color and I don't know yet to which color I or other users will change the cell background in the future?

    Can I change the font color to "transparent"?

    Possibly there is another way: Is there really no cell property "hidden" or similar?

    You can also change background color with conditional formatting.

    One way to achieve this is, custom format the reference cell as ;;; (Three Semicolons) to hide the cell value but you can still access that cell value in any formula.

    Does this help?

    @sktneer:

    perfect!

    Sad that such a workaround is necessary and no "hidden" attribute is provided by Excel
