    Dynamic multi-conditional lookup

    G’day excel forum.

I’ve once again found myself with a rather unusual problem; I have an extremely large database consisting of sets of conditions and adjacent text options. I need to generate what I assume will be a very large equation to test the conditions for a given set and return the corresponding text option.

As there may be several hundred sets of various sizes in each spreadsheet of this kind I build (and I will likely need to build many of these spreadsheets) I cannot use a separate conditional statement for each set (due to the insane amount of time it would take).

Producing this new equation is further complicated by the fact that for some sets there are additional conditions while for others there are not. I need to be able to enter a ‘set number’ and values for each of the conditions and return the appropriate text option.

Hopefully all this will make more sense with the attached workbook.

Any help anyone out there can offer with this would be greatly appreciated, I’m sure the solution is deceptively simple however I still can’t seem to get a handle on it.

    Cheers.

    Re: Dynamic multi-conditional lookup

Ah, my apologies Vikas I realize I didn't explain this very well, but my issue is slightly more complicated than that.
The "Ref #" values (Columns E, G, I, K, M and O) signify cell references to numerical values on other sheets, the 'Type' columns (Columns F, J and N) shows how the values need to be related for the condition to be met and the 'Connection' columns (Columns H and L) show how the conditions must be connected with one and other in order for the adjacent text option to be selected.
Each set (as defined by the 'Set number' column) will have conditions based on different reference values so the equation essentially needs to generate conditional or multi-conditional text lookups using the references, types and connections in those columns.
