    background image covers some gridlines

    Hi all,

is there a way to add a background image without it covering some gridlines? i have the transparency at 70% but some gridlines are still covered.
the problem is when i print the page.... the image covers the gridlines.
i'll be happy to send the file for review.

    thanks

    Hi Cadman,

    Welcome to the Forum!

I think that you could either enhance the gridlines or the transparency

Re: background image covers some gridlines

In the print setup have you selected to print gridlines?

Another thought: Try selecting the whole worksheet then right click format cells, Border, colour - Automatic. This should give a contrasting colour for the cell borders.

    Hi Cadman,

Your attached image didn't make it - is it the same transparency that's already in the sheet??

Don't feel bad, only a few of us seem to be able to attach images and I'm not one of them

Re: background image covers some gridlines

I looked at your image and I noticed that the Line Color had no transparency and the line style had the line width at 2 pts - Try making the line width be zero and see whether that solves your problem

Re: background image covers some gridlines

This isn't a background image but an image superimposed over the worksheet.

I have a feeling that the border of the text box is causing the trouble with the lines. The text box is actually floating over the worksheet. The border setting that you have actually isn't transparent but solid. Change the transparency to 100% in the Line Color. In Line Style set the width to 0 pt.

This should make the borders of the text box invisible and not interfere with the printing.

Re: background image covers some gridlines

I tried both options.... i'm afraid neither one worked. the attached file is what it looks like when i print it.

I tried inserting it as a background image but that creates lots of copies and stretches the image across multiple pages.
not what i'm looking for at all....unless i'm doing that wrong as well.

    what do you think?

Re: background image covers some gridlines

Have you tried to edit the image in an image editor to make the background transparent. This is different than altering the transparency in Excel.

I have used a copy of the image in the Excel file so the results are not exactly what you are looking for but I think that the idea of making the background transparent in an image editor is the way to go.

Yes... i used photoshop (i'm pretty good with photoshop) to make the image background transparent.... saved it as both a jpeg and png and tried both in the document. still no luck.

Re: background image covers some gridlines

Seeing that you will not be able to fill in the cells under the picture, have you considered printing the picture, reload the paper and then print the Excel worksheet over the already printed picture?

If this is for presentation with the possibility to fill in with the computer, Word may be the way to go. This is a quickly made replica of your excel worksheet in Word. The picture is placed behind text and the table was drawn over the picture.
