    PIVOT Table on Powerpoint

    Hi FOrum!

    Nice to be back and hope all is well. Im finding a little bit of a problem with the following:

    I have a pivot table in my Excel 2010 which I want to show on a Powerpoint and update realtime when I modify the data in Excel (realtime or pressing an "update link button would work). I have tried pasting it an an Excel object and as a link.

    The problem is that I want my Pivot on the powerpoint to resize automatically. For instance when my pivot in my excel grows with more rows, I want my pivot copy in the powerpoint to grow too- right now all I have is a fixed range updating on my powerpoint but additional rows are not captured.

    Any ideas? Thanks

    Open both Excel and Powerpoint. Select the Pivot Table in Excel and copy it. Go to Powerpoint, Home Tab, Paste Special, Paste Link, Microsoft Excel Worksheet Object.

    Re: PIVOT Table on Powerpoint

    Sorry New Doverman but Ive tried that and it wont work. When I do what you say, the pivot table in my powerpoint updates realtime, but still only captures a fixed range of cells (the original size of the pivot table when I first copied it over to powerpoint- but when the pivot grows in the excel the pivot table in powerpoint does not capture it.

    For example my original pivot table is A2:P20- I do what you say. Now I have a pivot in powerpoint linked to this range and as big as this range

    New data comes in, and my pivot in excel is now A2:P40. My pivot updates to the new values but still only captures the new values in A2:P20, not A2:P40.

    Thanks!

    Now that is strange. I had it mimicking the Excel worksheet Pivot Table. If I find an answer for you I'll get back.

    Re: PIVOT Table on Powerpoint

    It appears that the number of displayed rows in Powerpoint remains constant for the link to Excel. The data will change but the number of rows will not grow. If you reduce the rows in the Excel Pivot Table, you will notice that Powerpoint will reduce the size of the Pivot table but still display the rows that were included in the original link.

    Re: PIVOT Table on Powerpoint

    This works in Word, and may work in PPT, but it's painful:

    1. Create a dynamic named range for the pivot table.

    2. Copy the pivot table in Excel and Paste-Link in Word.

    3. Do Alt+F9 to show field codes to see something like this:

    { Link Excel.Sheet.12 "C:\\somePath\\someWorkbook.xlsx" "Sheet1!R1C1:R9C2" \a\p }

    4. Edit that to read ...

    { Link Excel.Sheet.12 "C:\\somePath\\someWorkbook.xlsx" "myNamedRange" \a\p }

    Now you're all set in Word, so ...

    5. Copy the field in Word and paste in PowerPoint.

    Does that work?

    @shg

    Good one! It has been 20 years since I had to use Powerpoint with links.

    You are right that it is painful.

    I found no way (in a one-minute search) to show field codes in PowerPoint.

    Re: PIVOT Table on Powerpoint

    Hi shg!

    Thanks for the help but unfortunately this still wont work. I have copied the entire pivottable into word as a link , modified it like you told me and now it automatically updates whenever i change the excel. However the range is still fixed- the link in word will update but it will keep the original size/range of the original pivot table when I first pasted the link so back to square one...

    any more ideas on this?

    Appreciate the help!

    Thanks
