Need help figuring out conditional formatting. also tutor on skype?

I speedrun games and atm I am writing a 100% notebook / spreadsheet on all of the items for gauntlet dark legacy.

but the way I have my spreadsheet organized isn't the best. I want to have A Column cells to have full accent colors and if there's a number in Column B then it will 40% accent color if there is a cell next to it in Column A. What would the formula be for this?

I'll link the spreadsheet to give you a little bit more understanding.Gauntlet Dark Legacy 100% All Items.xlsx

Also, feel free to give me any more formatting/organizing tips. 100% is a lot of data and I'm not really close to finishing it yet.

And if you want my skype, feel free to ask me via pm.

It looks like you have organized it via walk-through order?

In that case your kind of stuck in how you are organizing your data.

However what your asking for is pretty unclear.
Do you want Column B to have conditional formatting based on if it has a value or not, or do you want the formatting of the item in Column A to be dependent on a value entered in Column B.

Basically if I have to get crystals, I put the quantity in column b, so is there a way to just make it color 40% accent of the color to the left in column A. You can see I have the pattern started already but I'd rather just get a formula for it to do it automatically.

This will be a bit difficult with the way your spreadsheet is set up right now. You have manually assigned colors mixed in with conditionally formatted colors. In addition to that, you have gradient schemes on a few of them which makes things a bit more complicated. There are two paths I can see for you to get what you are asking:

    1: A Macro
The only way I can think to do this without modifying your sheet information is with a very complicated macro. There's no way for a macro to check and see which conditional format is active so you would have to check for each condition that your conditional formats check and then apply the desired format to the group of cells that meet the requirement. It's not complicated to make it 40% of the color in the main column from that point.

2: Change the sheet and use equations and conditional formatting
I would recommend this method over the previous one. It would be a good idea to create a column of data that the conditional formatting can directly reference. This could be manually assigned or determined through a series of equations. It could be a drop down list, an integer index, etc. that you can tell the conditional formatting how to use. For example, all yellow crystals can have an integer index of 1 which you determine will fill the cell back color of column A to yellow. Column B can check and see if the index is 1 and if the value of the cell in column 2 is greater than 0 and apply the faded yellow color. I'm not sure how to apply the faded color off the top of my head without a macro but I would be surprised if there wasn't a way.

Not sure if that helps you but there's my $0.02
