    GANTT Chart

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...0Chart%201.JPG

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...0Chart%202.JPG

GANTT Chart 1 : My GANTT Chart (False)

GANTT Chart 2 : Example GANTT Chart (Right)

I select the A2:C13 range and insert the stacked bar chart. But dates shows up on the left rather than on the bottom. How do I fix that?

    Re: GANTT Chart

What you described is correct but without seeing the properties of the chart it is not possible to tell what you did wrong.

It would be much easier to help if you attached your file instead of a screenshot of your file. It is actually easier to just attach the file.

When you say that there are two GANTT Charts; which Post number are you referring to? Of the two, which one is to be changed, and how?

Sorry. I meant the example of the file on this post. (above on the quote)

I want that the right GANTT chart to look as the left one. x and y axis values and y axis titles.

I share the file here again.

    Re: GANTT Chart

Sorry, but I'm being a bit thick. The one on the left is based on YOUR data. You have said that it is what you want. So delete the one on the right and (surely) your problem is solved??? Am I missing something?

Both Gantt charts in the file you just attached are built from the same data, which is your data. The right one is your original, and the left one is what you are saying you want the result to be.

So isn't the one on the left your final solution? You don't need to do anything to the one on the right except delete it.

Maybe your question is how to build the one on the left?

    Re: GANTT Chart

The instructions given in the URL that I gave you shows exactly how to create a Gantt chart from your type of data.
    http://www.smartsheet.com/blog/gantt-chart-excel

I have taken your data and produced a chart that is very close to the example. I didn't bother formatting the Bars in the Chart as you can easily select them and format them. If in doubt, select the Gant chart bars in the example that you have and make note of the settings for each area.

Getting the dates on the bottom is done by selecting the vertical AXIS and then go to Format Axis, the first category at the top has an entry for horizontal axis crosses at ....select Maximum.

    Re: GANTT Chart

It is much easier to get to the Gantt chart by starting from scratch rather than changing the chart that you have because Gantt Charts are not included in the charts that Excel comes with.

To make the change, I hope I don't forget anything or get it out of order.
    1. Click in the Plot Area and right click and select SELECT DATA.

    2. Click on ADD and enter the series name DURATION

    3. Select the range for DURATION

    4. Click in the panel to the right then click on EDIT

    5. Select the range of items in column A

    6. You should now have a stacked bar chart with 2 values per bar

    7. Select the series closest to the vertical axis ...right click and choose Format Data Series

    8. Click on FILL, select NO FILL.

    9. Click in the vertical axis to select it and select Format Axis

    10. Select Axis Options, select Categories in Reverse Order

    11. Select Horizontal Axis crosses at MAXIMUM Category. This should put the dates at the bottom.

    12. Select the Horizontal Axis (dates) and format as you choose.

    13. Select the data series and format as you would like.

    Re: GANTT Chart

I followed the directions that I gave to you and the chart was easily created. You have left out step #3. You had named the series "Duration" but didn't select the data range for it. The chart data range is missing. There should be two data series in the left pane but there is only one. Therefore you only had one series. The original series created when the data and chart type was selected is missing.

I went back and started from the beginning by selecting the data A2:C13 and then selecting a stacked bar chart (first line of charts, middle chart). Then, I just followed the directions that I gave you and the chart came out just fine.

Tip: Click on both axis's and copy down the settings so that you can duplicate them.

    Re: GANTT Chart

If I were you, I would create the chart from scratch rather than trying to convert an existing chart. The complete instructions are here:

    Re: GANTT Chart

I'm already trying to make GANTT chart from scratch. I checked the link out and I failed.

    Sir, may you tell me the exact references;

    1) On the Edit Series window I enter series name (DURATION) then click the place. I wrote DURATION and which range do I select?

    2) On the Select Data Source window which range do I select for Chart Data Range?

    3) On the Select Data Source wndow I click edit and which range do I select for Axis Label Range?

    Re: GANTT Chart

    1. The DURATION series is the column in your data under the heading DURATION.

    2. This should have already been selected for you. If it is blank, try leaving it blank.

    3. Axis Label Range is the list on the left side of your data under the heading ACTIVITY.

    Re: GANTT Chart

I did it once but when i tried to make it again it went like this now.

(I select the data. First 3 columns and insert stacked bar chart.)

    1) There are two category names at y axis. One is activities the other is dates. How to fix it?

    2) Data series are not the same? How to fix it?

    3) How to select all data series? (When I click one of them I can just select single one)

    Re: GANTT Chart

    I realized why it happens.

If you select A2:C13 it goes like this. "mess"

If you select A1:C13 it's OK.

Why? A2:C13 should have been OK as well.

    Re: GANTT Chart

    1. You had only 1 Data Series for the chart and it was incorrect. Data Series 1 should be =Sheet1!$B$2:$B$13
Data Series 2 should be =Sheet1!$C$2:$C$13

    2. Chart Data Range should be : =Sheet1!$A$2:$C$13

    3. X Axis number formatting should be Date, Custom m/d
    Y Axis
    Y Axis.JPG
    X Axis
    X Axis.JPG
    Data Series 1
    Data Series 1.JPG

Here is your workbook with the above settings applied to the chart that you provided. The rest of the settings are cosmetic and I'll leave that up to you.
