Question SUMMARY - multiple conditions - confusing....

Been trying to solve this one with SUMIF, COUNTA, COUNTIF and could not quite make it work. I have a feeling I am missing a column or a combination of these formulas somehow.

Glass windows come in various sizes, ie. 2106 - but each window size there are 3 types of windows - ie. Obscure, Awning and Double Hung (OBS, AWN, D/H).

I am trying to summarize each of the window size and obtain its location in the house as well.

Details are further explained in the Excel document attached.

I think that your calculations would be easier if your first table was set up like this:

    B
    C
    D
    2
    TABLE 1
    3
    WINDOW
    SIZE
    TYPE
    4
    lounge
    2121
    5
    media
    2106
    AWN
    6
    bath
    2106
    D/H
    7
    bed1
    2106
    D/H
    8
    ensuite
    2112
    OBS

Hi, I think I have it doing what you want.
I needed to use a few helper columns though and have them hidden between F and N.

It look up to 100 window entries. Rows 4 to 104.

The only thing is that it won't count the same windows with the same location.
e.g. If bed2 has 2 windows that are the same then it will only count 1.
I got round this by entering bed2a and bed2b (or maybe bed2.1 and bed2.2)

I hope it works for you, and maybe someone else can simplify this.

Thanks for your reply guys - Beamernsw - there will be conditions when 2 identical windows will be located in the same room.

Newdoverman - I just checked I cannot set as your recommended table as there will be some windows that would have more than one type, ie. an obscure and awning window.

I have shown you in the example table that you don't have to have a separate column for each type. The type can be identified as I have shown in 1 column for type. This is a very standard way of setting up data.
