Hello Everyone
I am a new member of the forum and have been trying to teach myself excel in order to do research for investing in dividend stocks. My idea is to buy stocks the day before they go Ex-Dividend ( The date you are entitled to get a dividend) and sell them when they get back to the purchase price. Stocks usually go down in price the same amount as the dividend but some quickly recover in price , some do not.
I am trying to build a spreadsheet that shows me how many days from the dividend day that it takes to get back to the Closing price of the day before the Dividend day. I can get the data from Yahoo Finance and copy it onto one spreadsheet but I can't figure out how to format it to get the info I need
I have attached an example of the data. What I'm trying to find is that if the dividend date is 6/19/2015 then I need to know how many days it takes for the "High" price to exceed my purchase price of $181.33 which is the "Close " price of the day before - 6/18/2015. On this example I can visually see that the price is exceeded the next trading day (6/22) so the answer would be "1" but this number will vary so I need a spreadsheet to do the calculations over hundreds of dates. I need to do this for each of the dividend days in the far right columns.
I've researched and tried to figure this out for a month and I'm either too new at excel or too dumb :-)
I would really appreciate any help you can give.
Thank you,
Marco
