    shade different fields with different background colors in pivot table

    Hallo. Is there a way to create different background colors for different column fields in a pivot table?

    It seems so simple, that I wonder if I am misunderstanding.

    I see 2 options, depending on exactly what you want to do:

    1) the usual "format cells" dialog that is always available for formatting cells (including changing the background "fill" color).
    2) On the PivotTable Tools group -> Design group -> check "banded columns" will alternate the fill color on columns.

    You can, in addition to the previous suggestions, use Conditional Formatting within the pivot table.
