I would like to have a drop down list in column A with a description of it in column B. In a new worksheet I would like to select the item in the drop down list and have the desctiption show up in the cell next to it.

Hi Jeff,
To create a dropdown you need to go to select "Data Validation" (under the Data tab). In the "Allow" dropdown you need to select list and then identify the source of the list.
For the descriptions you can use a "VLOOKUP" formula to pull from your data source.
