How can I subtract dates and get the answer in years, months, and days

there is a function called Datedif() which you won't find in help which
should give you what you want.

Use the DATEDIF function. This function is documented only in
Excel 2000 help, but it exists in all versions of Excel. See
www.cpearson.com/excel/datedif.htm for details.
